Welcome to Rock Island, Illinois

Rock Island, Illinois is located on the banks of the Mississippi River and is part of an area called the Quad Cities. With a city population close to 40,000, the metro area is around 375,000 people. It’s a great place to call home.

GROWTH Awarded $18,530,709 from HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program
Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation (GROWTH) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $18,530,708 in funding from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to assist the communities of Rock Island, Moline, and Sterling.

GROWTH created the Northwestern Illinois Coalition for this NSP program. GROWTH will serve as the Lead Applicant to administer the overall program and will work in concert with four Consortium Partners including: City of Moline, City of Rock Island, City of Sterling, and Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA).

The Loop Downtown Circulator Bus Starts
Transportation around the Quad Cities' downtowns just got easier. A new bus service to take visitors started February 4, 2010. Called the Loop, the busses will travel to The District, downtown Moline, downtown Bettendorf, the Village of East Davenport, and downtown Davenport. Click here for a brochure and map for the Loop.

  • Location: District stop - 18th St. & 2nd Ave.
  • Cost: $1 per trip or $3 for an all-day pass.
  • Hours: Thursday-Saturday 5 p.m.-1:30 a.m., Sunday 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
