As residential development and adaptive reuse of local historic buildings increases, so does the need for local and niche shopping opportunities.
The Shoppes on 2nd is a retail incubator located in downtown Rock Island. The development is truly a community effort designed to promote and increase the retail industry in Rock Island. The City of Rock Island and Renaissance Rock Island have partnered to make this endeavor a reality.
The Shoppes on 2nd is not a co-op, but instead consists of six independent retail suites. Each suite is customed tailored to best showcase each indepedent retailer's products and brand.
Many communities have created retail “incubators” as a means of nurturing new businesses, affording them the opportunity to grow and prosper. The Shoppes on 2nd is a shining example of adaptive re-use of an existing building which had been under-utilized for over ten years. The investment in the building is also an investment in the community and the future of Rock Island.
The Shoppes on 2nd boasts five independent retailers and will be 100% occupied by March 1st.
