Augustana College
Augustana College is a private, selective, liberal arts college located at 639 38th Street in Rock Island. Augustana's campus on the bluffs above the Mississippi River is said to be one of the most stunning college campus settings in the nation. Facing the Mississippi River, Augustana's 115-acre campus shares the landscape of the river valley. Woods, green lawns, hills, and a pond provide quiet seclusion, while just off campus is the active city life. Campus buildings range in character from historic Old Main with its towering dome to the advanced learning environment of the F.W. Olin Educational Technology Center.
Augustana's 2,500 students represent a wide variety of ethnic, geographic, social, and cultural backgrounds. Here, each student finds a unique combination of opportunities: from debate and jazz to research and rowing for the crew team. Augustana knows how to bring out the diverse talents in each student.
With more than 50 academic programs ranging from Chinese to physics to environmental management and forestry, Augustana College provides its students with a first-rate education in the liberal arts and sciences from a renowned faculty of scholar-teachers. Though they are deeply engaged in their disciplines--as demonstrated by their impressive publications, creative work, and discoveries--faculty come to Augustana because they love to teach. Students at Augustana come to know their professors because a 11:1 faculty-student ratio is maintained, which means you'll never be lost in the crowd.
Augustana offers excellent opportunities for students beyond the superb academic program. There is an activity or organization for nearly every interest (and there are over 100 organizations for students) plus sports for men and women.
